What is Startup Blacksburg?
Startup Blacksburg is a community of entrepreneurs, mentors,
investors and startup enthusiasts coming together to spur the creation and
growth of startups in Blacksburg, Virginia and the New River Valley. The
local, grass roots initiative is a regional affiliate of Startup Virginia and
the national Startup America movement.
What is a Startup?
Startup America defines “startup” as a business where at least
two people (a founder and co-founder or founder and full/part time employee) have, within the past five years, created a business entity with the ambition to build a scalable company. Startup America also defines a “rampup” as a company, founded within the past 10 years and comprised of a team of five or more people, that has secured at least two customers and has a clear focus on customer growth. A “speedup” is a company, founded within the past 10 years, that employs at least 25 people and has established a revenue run-rate of at least $10 million.
Can I still be involved in Startup Blacksburg if my business
doesn’t fit the definition of a “startup”?
Of course! We welcome businesses of all sizes and growth strategies. A rising tide lifts all boats, so a community that nurtures its startups will nurture all its small businesses. Please join us in making Blacksburg an even better place for startups, entrepreneurs, and all small businesses.
What if my startup isn’t in the Town of Blacksburg?
No problem! Startup Blacksburg supports startups throughout the entire Blacksburg metro area - known locally as the New River Valley. The metro - anchored by Blacksburg, Christiansburg and Radford - includes the counties of Floyd, Giles, Montgomery and Pulaski.
What is Startup Blacksburg doing to fulfill its mission of spurring the creation and growth of startups in the region?
